Why BetterMinds exists

“I’m Gareth. After years of navigating complex health problems, I started building the health champion I needed for myself. I believe everyone deserves that kind of support. That’s why I’m building REN, and why I want more people to have access to it.”

Gareth Squance, co-founder

Lived experience is the origin of this work, not proof of a clinical outcome.

Who shapes REN

Shaped with therapists, in conversation with psychologists.

Therapists are on board and part of the work. They challenge how REN listens and responds, how its learning content is framed and where a human conversation needs to take over. We are also actively engaging with qualified psychologists as REN develops.

How professionals shape REN
  1. The words REN uses

Language that helps someone feel understood, without pretending to treat.

  2. What sits inside the app

Recorded sessions and short learning content, and how they are framed for harder moments.

  3. Where REN stops

Clear points where a person, not an app, needs to take over.

They shape the product rather than providing care through it, and their involvement is not a clinical endorsement.

What REN helps with today

A bridge between appointments. Not a replacement for them.

In the moment

Put it into words

Talk or type as it happens, or make a quick check-in for anxiety, mood or sleep. Guided breathing is there if you need a pause.

Between appointments

Hold the thread

REN helps you reflect and notice what matters. What it remembers stays visible, so you can correct it or ask it to forget.

Before the next one

Take it with you

Shape an editable note for your therapist, GP or specialist. You decide what to share, and they keep the professional judgement.

Inside the app

A look at the private beta.

01 / Inside BetterMinds

Begin with today.

A quick check-in gives you a place to start. Bring together what you notice about your mood, sleep or anxiety without needing to explain everything at once.

You review what REN prepares. You choose whether to share it. Human professionals keep their judgement.

Your words, your choice

Better prepared, and still your conversation.

REN can help you reflect, organise and prepare. You review the words and choose whether to share them. Nothing is sent automatically.

A clear place to stop

  • Not a therapist, clinician or diagnostic service.
  • Does not monitor crises or contact emergency services.
  • No employer access to personal conversations.
  • No promises of an outcome.

Therapists, clinicians and chosen professionals keep responsibility for care and decisions.

What we are working towards

In time, we hope REN can draw on a wider circle of professional perspectives, from more therapy approaches to nutrition, so support reflects the whole person. That is direction, not something available today.

More day-to-day confidence, earlier human support and fewer avoidable wellbeing-related absences are aims for responsible testing. They are not results we can claim today.
